The designs featured in Designing the Taxi  were generated by some of the nation's top product and industrial designers. Following our series of workshops, participating designers were asked to rethink the taxi experience for both the passenger and the driver, and they had just three weeks to develop their ideas. The breadth and quality of ideas presented here are remarkable – and many served as design inspiration for the new Nissan NV200 Taxi of Tomorrow currently on our city's streets.

Illustrated with with imaginative renderings, the book is divided into two parts, "The Taxi System" and "The Taxi Vehicle," and provides an in-depth examination of ideas generated by workshop participants:

  • Taxi identity
  • Taxi stands
  • Taxi lanes/incentive pricing
  • Cell phone hailing
  • Cashless payment
  • Fleet diversification
  • Greening the taxi
  • Roof indicator light
  • Access
  • Interior proportions
  • Built-in child seat
  • Partition/passenger console
  • Skylight
